Thoughts from Peggy

His words reminded me both of the work we do to support families and of the power we have as a Giving Circle to make real changes because we are working together.Fall is a busy time; how can each of us find a way to be involved in our community with everything else going on? Involvement can take many forms and flexibility is our hallmark. There is a lot to do, from participating in the Gifts Committee’s a fresh look at parental engagement needs in the community, to taking part in a service activity, to hosting a Giving Circle party and inviting friends to join our work.
Warm regards,
PS – And, speaking of full involvement, check out the story of our member, Brooke Curran, and how she has combined her passions for running and for helping others!
It’s that time of year again! Renewal letters are going out soon.
Fall is renewal season! Our goal is to raise $70,000 for this year’s priority gifts and we need your help to meet this goal. Renewing your membership now, in the fall, allows us to plan our giving for next year and announce our gifts in the spring.
You will receive your renewal letter in the first days of October. Please respond to your letter to renew your membership, renew right now online or at one of this fall’s membership parties.
Also, please mark your calendar now for our Fifth Year Anniversary Celebration on November 4th at the home of our founding member, Maria Hopper.
Any questions? Please email Sue Setliff and the membership team.
News from the Gift Committee

In addition, our Committee approved a recommendation for developmental gifts and we are very excited to share it with you! We have sent this recommendation to the Board and it will be coming to you soon in a separate announcement. Watch for this gift announcement because we would like and need to hear your comments on this recommendation. The Board’s final approval of the developmental gift recipients will be at its December 8, 2009 meeting.
We invite all Giving Circle members to attend Gift Committee meetings and to become a part of the gift process. In particular, if you are interested in serving on the subcommittee to evaluate priority gift possibilities, please contact Karen Snow or Peggy Stypula.
The next gift committee meeting is October 20, 2009 at 7 pm at City Hall.

Giving Circle Members in Motion: Meet Brooke Sydnor Curran
Who is that woman running all over Alexandria? Even if you are not a runner yourself, you have probably seen Brooke Sydnor Curran out and about town. Brooke, a Giving Circle member since 2006, has found a way to use her passion for running in a way that benefits the community. Since the beginning of the year, Brooke has raised $15,000 towards a goal of $20,000 for the RunningBrooke Fund, an ACT donor advised fund. Let’s get to know Brooke and her work a little more. I promise it is worth the click! Read the rest of this entry »
